Our RSPO journey

Sucrose esters are produced with sucrose, from beet and cane, and fatty acids from palm and coconut oil.

Palm oil is so versatile that we do not realise just how much we use it in our everyday lives. It is found in our food, soaps, detergents, cosmetics, plastics and more recently, as a renewable alternative to fossil fuels (biofuel). Palm oil is today the most produced vegetable oil in the world : 37 million metric tonnes (Oil World, 2006).

Although palm oil is a more sustainable source of vegetable oil than other oil crops, there is a concern that the growing demand of palm oil for food and biofuel could lead to rapid and ill-managed expansion of palm oil production and result in serious environmental and social consequences.

Herewith Sisterna would like to inform you about the RSPO situation for all the powder grades Sisterna sucrose esters:

We are pleased to announce that the facilities of our mother company DKS in Japan, the producer of our sucrose esters of fatty acids, are approved as RSPO Mass Balance and Segregation supply chain.

This is to inform you that the production with certified and traceable palm oil according to the Mass Balance system has started in January 2017. This means that the supply of RSPO certified Sisterna sucrose esters from our warehouse in the Netherlands has started from March 2017.
