Shampoo & shower gels

In the development of body and hair cleansing formulations non-ionic surfactants are added to blends of traditional foaming anionic and amphoteric surfactants to improve mildness. The high HLB grade Sisterna^® sucrose esters are suitable to be added as EO-free, nonionic surfactants.

The capability to reduce the irritating properties of anionic surfactants can be of great help when formulating shampoo’s and shower gels. When added as a co-surfactant to conventional formulations Sisterna^® sucrose esters show a considerable improvement in terms of skin tolerance and sensorial properties, such as a pleasant after-feel and skin smoothness.

Sucrose esters in cleansing formulations

• Sisterna L70-C is the recommended surfactant for transparent products;
• For opacified or pearlescing cleansers, also Sisterna PS750-C or Sisterna SP70-C are applicable, however the foaming performance may be lower.

Sucrose esters for 2 in 1 cleansing formulations

In these formulation types, lipids are emulsified giving a further improvement in mildness and a reduction of skin delipidization. For emulsification all Sisterna^® sucrose ester grades with O/W emulsifying properties can be used.
