Dental
In tooth-paste (and other oral care products), Sisterna® sucrose esters can be used as mild surfactant. When using Sisterna L70-C, it also functions as an anti-microbial agent, inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus mutans, thus protecting teeth against cariës.
Benefits of Sisterna® sucrose esters in toothpaste:
Sisterna® sucrose esters of fatty acids, more specifically those based on lauric or stearic acid with a high HLB (Sisterna L70-C or Sisterna SP70-C), alone or in combination with other surfactants, show excellent functionality in dental care products. The final choice of sucrose ester type depends upon the required properties of the toothpaste.
When used in products such as tooth-paste, Sisterna® sucrose esters
- Show mild detergent characteristics, with a moderate solubilising activity;
- Inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans, thus protecting the teeth against caries;
- Reduce the irritancy of other (anionic) surfactants, while retaining their cleansing properties;
- Do not affect the foaming capacity of other commonly used surfactants;
- Can have a protective effect on enzymes present in toothpaste;
- Reduce after-taste effects.
